The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) expressed deep anguish and shock over the
recommendation of Congress party Sheila Dikshit led-Government of Delhi
to pardon Kishori Lal, convicted for the murder of seven Sikhs in the
1984 Sikh massacre and said that this move hurt the sentiments of the
Sikh community. The recommendation has been sent to Lt Governor of Delhi
In a statement released on Friday, SAD Secretary and Spokesman Dr
Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was ironic that the Congress party
instead of pursuing the remaining cases to ensure punishment to the
guilty of the 1984 Sikh massacre was working to release even those who
had been convicted. “The Congress party is behaving in a most
irresponsible, illegal, unconstitutional and shameful manner,” he added.
Kishori Lal was awarded the death punishment thrice for the murders,
but each death sentence was converted into life imprisonment by the
Supreme Court.
