SGPC bows to Brahman Sabha on booklet

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 29 : The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today decided to remove objectionable references to Bhagwan Parshuram in booklet “Kesh Saada Gaurav” published by the Dharam Parchar Committee.

This was decided following objections to it by the Punjab Sri Brahman Sabha, which also met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on the issue here.

Secretary Behari Lal Saddi said the Chief Minister after listening to the sabha rang up SGPC president Avtar Singh telling him to withdraw the booklet and blacklist the author who wrote it . The sabha, appreciating positive gesture of the Chief Minister said the SGPC should ensure such derogatry references to other communities did not appear in literature published by the Dharam Parchar Committee.

The SGPC president said he had decided to delete the objectionable references during reprinting the booklet, which was scheduled soon.
