Sweets Survive Partition: Be It In Jalandhar or At Gujranwala, They Still Taste The Same

                      Jalandhar Sweets at Gujranwala

Mohammad Zafar, owner of Jalandhar Sweets, had migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and settled in Gujrawala. He started his business under the same name at Gujrawala.

Muhammad: Our grandfather had migrated from Jalandhar. He named ...

“Our grandfather had migrated from Jalandhar. He named his shop Jalandhar Sweets after moving to Gujranwala. Now we have three such shops in Gujranwala. There is a Jalandhar Sweets in Lahore also. They are also our distant relatives,” said Salman mehmood, grandson of Mohammad Zafar.

He said, “We never faced any issue with the name of the shops. No one ever objected to it. I want to go to Jalandhar. I will soon after relations between both countries normalise. We used to listen to stories of Partition from our grandmother.”

“Our business and reputation is good by the grace of God. My grandfather had set up his shop in Jalandhar city in 1922. He knew nothing other than confectionery. So he started the same business again in Gujranwala. This name became our heritage,” said Mehmood.

Kotkapura Violence Case: SIT Declares Sikh Preachers Innocent

               Hindustantimes

The SIT found Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale to be innocent in the Kotkapura violence case .

The special investigation team (SIT) headed by inspector general of police (IGP) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh has declared Sikh preachers Bhai Panthpreet Singh, Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, Amrik Singh Ajnala, Harjinder Singh Manjhi, Giani Kewal Singh and 18 others as ‘innocent’ in the Kotkapura violence case registered in 2015.

SIT has removed their names as accused from the case.

Bhai Panthpreet Singh has been found to be innocent

SIT has removed their names as accused from the case.

The development came with the SIT’s move of filing a chargesheet against then Kotkapura DSP Baljit Singh Sidhu and SHO Gurdeep Singh Pandher on Friday14th August 2020.

As per the case, the Sikh preachers — Bhai Panthpreet Singh, Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, Amrik Singh Ajnala, Harjinder Singh Manji and others — were leading the protest against the then Shiromani Akali Dal government over the Bargari sacrilege incident, demanding the arrest of the accused.

The police on October 14, 2015 registered an FIR against 15 Sikh preachers and unknown persons at Kotkapura city police station for allegedly instigating the protesters to attack the police with sharp edge weapons and opening fire on cops.

The case was registered under sections of 307 (attempt to murder), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of the IPC, Arms Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, on the complaint of then Kotkapura SHO Gurdeep Singh.

Following the incident, Bhai Panthpreet Singh, Mander Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Balpreeet Singh and five others were arrested by the police in the case.

The Faridkot court released the Sikh preachers on October 16, 2015. The SIT also recorded their statements in the case. The probe found that the preachers and others were protesting peacefully over the sacrilege incident.

The SIT claimed that then DSP Baljeet Singh Sidhu and SHO Gurdeep have framed many innocent persons in the violence case. It said Pandher and Sidhu made an attempt to destroy 11 pieces of evidence, manipulated and fabricated crucial facts of the case. The SIT claimed that they were part of a conspiracy to create a self-defence theory to justify the police stand that protestors had attacked the police in Kotkapura.

Pandher, who is presently under judicial custody, was arrested by the SIT on June 25. Later Sidhu was also named an accused in the case.

Outrage Among Sikhs After Hoardings Extending Birthday Wishes To Jagdish Tytler Come Up In Amritsar.

On seeing these hoardings and posters, the Sikh activists immediately started removing them. Anger amongst the common masses towards the hoarding was visible as local Sikhs as they started beating Tytler’s face with their shoes, besides blackening it with a shoe polish.

Meanwhile, eight Sikh activists including Paramjit Singh Akali (Jatha Sirlath) have lodged a complaint against Karamjit “Singh” Gill for hurting Sikh sentiments and promoting communal disharmony in Punjab.

                                          Jagdish Tytler

Congress leader Jagdish Tytler had played a key role in the 1984 Sikh genocide carried out by Hindu Government leaders after the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Delhi.

In 2018, former DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK had formally publicized a video of Jagdish Tytler’s sting operation carried out by undisclosed persons. In this video, Tytler was observed shamelessly boasting about murders of a hundred Sikhs during the 1984 Sikh genocide.

Harita Kaur Deol was appointed as SSC Officer in the year 1993 And she became the first woman cadet to join the Indian Air Force.

Inspiring Story of Harita Kaur Deol – The First Woman to Fly Solo ...

September 1994, the 22 years old Harita Deol made India shine brightly when she flew high in an Avro HS–748 and She created history when she kissed the clouds at a massive height of 10,000 feet, which indeed was an momentous occasion for Indian Air Force. She was the first woman to fly in IAF without any co-pilot. And when she finally touched the ground, she knew she had made the history of the first that day. It was not only a proud moment for her but for the officer who trained her throughout. Her demonstration was so neat that she outdid the male pilots, as exclaimed by her training officer.

Inspiring Story of Harita Kaur Deol – The First Woman to Fly Solo ...

Air Operation Task : 24 Dec 1996

It is said that the great talents on earth always have an early exit.On 24 Dec 1996, Flt Lt Harita was assigned an operational as a co-pilot.  Flt Lt Harita took off from Chennai in her HS-748 Avro aircraft as a co-pilot on a sortie from Chennai to Hyderabad. However on the way to Hyderabad the aircraft suffered technical glitches along with wing fatigue and  crashed  near Bukkapuram village in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

In this ill fated crash Flt lt Harita lost her life along with 24 other personnel.

Thus the life of a fine Air Force officer and a committed  soldier was lost in this unfortunate accident. Flt Lt Harita had achieved the distinction of becoming the first Indian woman to fly a solo flight in the IAF but unfortunately also became the first woman Air Force pilot to die in harness in the line of duty.
