Himachal Pradesh landslide: At least 8 killed; 10 injured as Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib caves in
Eight persons were killed and ten others injured when a building adjoining the historic Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara caved in due to a massive landslide this afternoon.
Kullu Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kanwar confirmed that eight bodies which were buried under huge boulders have been extricated while search is on for more.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the dead could be more than ten in number as a large number of people had taken shelter in the building, close to the Gurdwara, when the tragedy struck.
The exact number of dead or injured could not be ascertained as some bodies are feared to be buried under the debris.
The district administration has sought the assistance of Gurdwara authorities in locating and identifying the bodies as most people staying in the building were outsiders.
People ran helter-skelter as boulders fell on the building and many were trapped as a huge portion of the three- storey building virtually collapsed.
The locals and Gurdwara management immediately swung into action and started rescue operations while Additional District Magistrate, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kullu and other district officials rushed to the spot.
Those injured have been admitted to zonal hospital at Kullu and condition of seven of them is stated to be serious.

DSGMC questioned :Yakub Memon is finally hanged but what about the perpetrators of 1984 Sikh’s genocide
Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president S. Manjit Singh GK, in an open letter to the people of India said that 1993 Mumbai terror attack convict Yakub Memon is finally hanged but what about the perpetrators of 1984 Sikh’s genocide ? Leave alone putting them behind bars, they have instead been provided with plush and influential posts , given high security cover and are still dictating terms as if mocking the Sikh’s bloodshed.
“Endless fight, both on roads and in court rooms in past 31 years have brought no reprieve to the ailing Sikh community especially to the victims’ relatives, now it is up to common law abiding citizens of India to decide on the judicial as well as political system that influences the judiciary and raise a voice to change it” said Gk.
He said Mumbai terror attack in 1993 had costs 257 precious lives which was a highly deplorable incident in the history of independent India but butchering of more than ten thousand Sikhs in cold blood in 1984 was no less a heinous crime which deserved justice and taken to a logical end.
“What made the judicial system to reward capital punishment to the Mumbai terror attack convict in 22 years times but not to send a single perpetrator of Sikh genocide to gallows even after 31 years of the incident” questioned GK.
He said, in an unprecedented manner, Supreme Court judges worked overnight to expedite the Yakub Memon’s case but judicial system never gave a serious thought to punish the killers of thousands of Sikhs who were also expecting justice from the same judicial set up.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa General Secretary Of DSGMC said that Supreme Court had taken suo moto notice of Godhra incident in which around 1100 people were killed and constituted a Special Investigation Team but in case of Sikh’s genocide, SIT had been constituted but there was no whereabouts of its officials. “Why there is this disparity, why justice is not being given to Sikh victims of 1984 genocide , why the killers of Sikhs are roaming free and away from the clutches of law” questioned Sirsa.

Sikh grandfather risks life for love
Today's crumb comes to us from the Times of India. A 62-year-old man who wishes to remain nameless recently arrived in Australia from India to visit his children and his 18-month-old granddaughter. They were at Wentworthville station in Sydney where he was buying a train ticket. He did not know it, but for weather reasons the platform is slightly slanted toward the tracks, This caused his grandchild's untended buggy to roll away, as shown here, until it crashed down onto the tracks.
Instantly the grandfather ran after the baby. He jumped down onto the track bed and lifted the pram (with his granddaughter in it) up to the waiting arms of her Mom and grandmother. Then he noticed a freight train racing toward him.
He was unable to climb back up on the platform. The train blew its horn to warn him, and a security camera caught him running for his life down the tracks until he found a spot just wide enough to squeeze aside as the train zoomed by. Railroad inspector Paul Reynolds summed up the incident this way: "Baby very lucky. Grandfather just as lucky." The platform will soon be regraded to make it completely flat.

After US Shooting, Sikh Group Asks Community To Be Cautious
In the wake of the gunning down of four marines at military facilities in Tennessee by a Muslim youth with “unshorn beard”, a Sikh rights group has asked Sikh-American community members to exercise caution as they become vulnerable to hate crimes following such incidents.
The caution came after a 24-year-old gunman opened fire at two US military centres in Tennessee yesterday, killing four marines in a rampage that officials said was being probed as an act of “domestic terrorism.” The shooter was identified by the FBI as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez.
