Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today urged Centre and Delhi Government to rename
Ranjit Singh Colony as Maharaja ranjit Singh Colony.
Paying Tributes to Maharaja Ranjit Singh at his bust at Connaught Palace here today on his 240th birth anniversary, Mr. Sirsa said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh gave first secular state to India in the form of Khalsa Raj. Though he established Khalsa Raj with the power of his sword, his state was always peaceful and secular which had highest literacy rate in the country.
He said that the
country is witnessing a trend to short name of colonies and other
establishments which are in name as Ranjit Singh which is most unfortunate and
he urged the Centre and Delhi Governments to rename all such avenues as
Maharaja Ranjit Singh Nagar and likewise.
Speaking on the occasion, World Punjab Organisation (WPO) Chairman Mr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney disclosed that apart from this bust established in Connaught place his statue riding horse was established in Parliament complex during time of Atal Bihar Vajpayee as Prime Minister. He said that now Punjabi Cultural Heritage Centre in his name is being established in Rose Avenue which will be inaugurated by Vaisakhi i.e. 13th April 2020. Maharaja Ranjit Singh has tremendous faith in religion and he donated tones of gold in Darbar Sahib, Hazur Sahib and other places.
On the occasion
Mr. Tarlochan Singh former Chairman of the Minority Commission urged the
Government of India to establish a university in the name of Maharaja Ranjit
Singh so that the present and coming generations can be taught about his
bravery and how he established Khalsa Raj.
