Outrage Among Sikhs After Central Government Excludes Punjabi From The Jammu & Kashmir Official Languages Bill.

A sharp outrage has erupted among the Sikhs and non-Sikh Punjabis residing in J&K after the exclusion of Punjabi language from the “J&K Official Languages Bill”.

Notably, the BJP led Central Government is restructuring the constitutional setup of J&K after making it a Union Territory .

On September 2, the Central  government has approved a draft legislation to make Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, and English official languages of J&K. The Indian government is likely to present this bill in the parliament during the upcoming monsoon session beginning on September 14.

Today 3rd September, Various Sikh organisations staged a protest in Jammu  demanding the inclusion of Punjabi language in the “J&K Official Languages Bill”.

Interacting with media on this occasion, TS Wazir chairman of the J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board said “Till 1981, Punjabi language was a compulsory subject like Urdu in J&K but now it has been totally neglected by the Centre. which is a direct attack on the identity of the Sikh community in J&K,”

The move is also against the Modi government’s slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,”
