Former MLA Mahendra Singh Yadav, convicted of 1984 Sikh
Riots in Delhi and Mahendra Singh Yadav, has died of Coronavirus. The
70-year-old Yadav was serving a 10-year sentence in Delhi's Mandoli jail.
On 1st

Yadav. Yadav had sought interim bail from the Supreme Court on the grounds of
being Covid-19 positive and older.
Supreme Court refuses to listen
Mahendra Singh Yadav has been sentenced to ten years in
the case. The Supreme Court had said that we cannot hear this petition without
any complaint or charge on treatment. The relatives of a patient are not
allowed to go to the hospital.
'Family has no complaints about treatment'
The court said that this is a general rule and an order
to the contrary cannot be issued. Justice Indira Banerjee, while hearing in the
case, said that every effort is being made to treat the petitioner. Her family
has no complaints related to treatment. There is no other specific suggestion
of the family that they would like to take.
Admitted after complaining of stomach ache
Significantly, in the 1984 anti-Sikh violence case,
former MLA Mahendra Yadav, who was lodged in Mandoli jail, was found corona
infected. He was admitted to the Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital by the jail
administration after complaining of stomach ache. When he was tested for
Kovid-19 in the hospital, the report came back positive. He was referred to the
Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP) when his condition deteriorated.
