Mr.Ranjit Singh :First  Sikh Deputy Mayor of French city, Bobigny ,France

It is a very honorable achievement for Sikhs that where turban is banned in schools and colleges, a young Sikh wearing a turban is elected as Deputy Mayor.

MR.Ranjit Singh, a native of France, was elected the first Sikh Sardar Deputy Mayor of Bobigny, France. France where carrying religious symbols, including Sikh turbans, in schools and colleges is banned. Children  who were expelled from government colleges in 2004 due to the ban on turbans. Sardar Chain Singh, son of Sardar Ranjit Singh, was one of them.

Mr. Ranjit Singh studied in a private college wearing a turban and later obtained a master's degree in law and economics from the famous University of Sorbonne in France. When the turban was banned in France in 2004, the Sikhs of France staged a protest in France at the time when Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann, the then Leader of the Nation, was a Member of Parliament. In particular, he arrived in France from India to lead the protest. He joined the protest and protested with the French government. At the same time, he encouraged the young people of France to study in France as much as possible and at the same time participate in the politics of France and make them aware of the identity of their Sikhs .

Inspired by this well-educated and far-sighted leader, Mr.Simranjit Singh Mann, Mr.Ranjit Singh, continued his studies and became a member of the French Government.Taking time from the parliament and the ministers and accompanying the city leaders of France, he kept them informed about the Sikhs and the difficulties of the Sikhs in France.

Mr. Ranjit Singh, who was expelled from Government College in 2004 for wearing a turban, now has been elected the first turbaned Sikh deputy mayor of Bobigny, France. Pride moment for Sikh Community.
