Police say man shot dead outside Richmond, B.C. temple was targeted

RICHMOND, B.C. -- Police say a man has been killed in a targeted shooting outside a Sikh temple in Richmond, B.C.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation team has identified the victim as 42-year-old Edwin Shek-Yin Cheng, a Richmond man who was known to police.
Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said officers don't yet know why he was in the parking lot of the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Sikh Temple.
"At this time there appears to be no connection between the Sikh temple and the location of the murder," she said in a statement.
"We have no reason to believe the public is at further risk as a result of this targeted incident."
She said police were called just before 9:30 p.m. Friday to the temple on No. 5 Road, where they found one man in a vehicle who had been shot dead.
