Krishna, political parties condemn beheading of Sikhs

NEW DELHI: The beheading of two Sikhs by Pakistan Taliban came in for severe criticism by the Indian leadership on Monday. Foreign minister S M Krishna called it “barbaric” and said it would “take us back to medieval times”.

There is now a lot of political pressure to raise the issue at the forthcoming foreign secretary talks on Thursday. Krishna said, “All issues concerning relations between the two countries depending upon time will be taken up.”

In London, foreign secretary Nirupama Rao condemned the incident separately. Speaking at the IISS, she said, “The beheading of two Sikhs is most unfortunate and tragic (incident) and we have sought facts from Pakistan.”

Two Sikhs, who were kidnapped for ransom, were found beheaded by the Pakistani Taliban in the country’s restive tribal belt. Some more members of the minority community are still in the custody of the rebels.

The beheading of two Sikhs in Pakistan's frontier province for refusing to convert to Islam reminds me of the greatest Sikh martyr - Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.
The martyrdom of two Sikhs will not go in vain. The humanity must pay tribute to them.

Mere condemnation for this barbaric act is not enough. I appeal to Indian Government to raise the matter in Security Council Council. Only then such beastly acts can be stopped.
