1984 anti-Sikh riots case: Delhi High Court grants bail to Sajjan Kumar

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was on Friday granted bail by the Delhi High Court in connection with the two cases registered against him in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

The Delhi Police earlier on Thursday suspended Kumar's personal security officer (PSO) after he informed his seniors that Kumar, accused in 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases, was "missing" for at least two days.

The PSO, Constable Ram Niroha, reportedly approached his seniors at Delhi Police's security wing on February 19.

The Karkardooma Court had on Tuesday (February 23) issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against Kumar and slammed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its failure to arrest Kumar and others accused in the case.Justify Full

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma had refuted the plea of the investigating agencies to issue a proclamation against the accused on the ground that he was absconding.

The CBI, which arrested one out of 12 accused, said that it conducted raids at Kumar's residence four times after the warrant was issued on February 17, but failed to apprehend him. It also asked the court to declare the former MP and other accused as absconders.

The court issued fresh non-bailable warrant against Kumar and 11 other accused for March 10.

The court said on Tuesday, "So far ground work is concerned; CBI does not seem to be serious enough to apprehend the accused. CBI wants to complete only paper work. These are all stereotype reports."

The harsh comments of the court came followed by the CBI acceptance that it failed to apprehend the accused despite conducting raids.

The CBI had on January 13 charge-sheeted Kumar and others in the two cases accusing them of making provocative speeches, leading to the killing of 12 persons in the riots that followed the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. (ANI)
