Sikhs Constitute ‘Haryana Dhaddi Sabha’ in Name of Bhai Abdullah and Bhai Nath Mal

A Dhaddi Jatha of Four Performimg

AMBALA: Taking a step forward towards an organisation for the revival of art and supporting the dhaddi jathas (bard groups), the Haryana Sikhs have constituted ‘Haryana Dhaddi Sabha’ in the name of Bhai Abdullah and Bhai Nath Mal and elected Lakhwinder Singh Paras of Rajouli village in Ambala district as its president after a meeting held at Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib in Ambala .

They said the motive of the organisation is to organise and revive the art and support dhaddi jathas of Haryana state and to ensure their welfare in times of need.

Bhai Abdullah and Bhai Nath Mal were the famous dhaddis (bards) employed by sixth Sikh master Guru Hargobind to sing heroic ballads at the Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar.

Bhai Abdullah's full name was Mir Abdullah who belonged to the village of Sursing, Amritsar district, and was an expert rabab-player. His companion, Bhai Natha belonged to Sultanwind, Amritsar district who played on the dhad. Bhai Abdullah and Bhai Natha were very popular in their time and they composed many heroic ballads.

Dhaddis are distinct group performers which emerged in the times of Sikh gurus and they sing ballads of warriors playing instruments including Dhadd and Sarangi, which are also folk instruments related to Punjab.

They play an important role in preserving and telling the historic facts related to Sikh religion to the people and some dhaddis also sing folklores.

This is for the first time ever that dhaddi jathas of Haryana united under an organisation. The motive is to revive and spread dhaddi art in Haryana, Punjab, India, and in the world. The organisation will help and support dhaddis in times of need and any family problems. The body will provide them loans from the available funds without any interest which they can return in installments. The body will also help budding dhaddis with content and in all aspects. There is a plan to open a training center for teaching dhaddi art to the young generation too and we will write to panthak organisations and societies for establishing the institution.”

Lakhwinder Singh Paras said, “As per tradition since the times of gurus, dhaddi jathas perform at Akal Takht Sahib on a daily basis and no group from Haryana visit there to perform. We will communicate with Jathedar Akal Takht to invite Haryana jathas to perform at the Takht as this will boost their confidence. The body will ensure that every jatha is dedicated to Akal Takht and follows the conducts laid by the supreme seat.”

Guru Nanak Said Nature Brings God Closer to Us :Punjab Governments’s Contribution in Making The Earth a Greener Place

Punjab Government’s  initiative to plant saplings on non-forest land in every village across the state will go a long way in making the planet a greener place.

PUNJAB: Founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev said nature is the manifestation of God. At the time when the followers of the faith were gearing up to celebrate the Guru’s 550th birth anniversary, the Punjab government also took a small step that can bring about a big change by enhancing the green cover.

As many as 76.25 lakh saplings of seasonal trees have been planted across 12,896 villages of Punjab. Each village of the state has 550 saplings planted on non-forest land. This may seem like a regular government initiative, but it can contribute to making the Earth a greener, cleaner place — something Guru Nanak said brings God closer to us.

This project, launched in September, 2018, was a brainchild of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Raw Milk vs Packaged Milk :Amritsar Still Prefers Local Supply Over Packaged Milk

Packaged milk industry struggles to compete with local supply

Amritsar: The packaged milk industry here is yet to win the confidence of consumers, who still prefer buying loose milk from friendly “dodhi” (milkmen), who delivers “fresh” milk at their doorstep every morning after milking it straight from cows and buffaloes at his “tabela”. Although there have been numerous cases of loose milk adulteration, the packaged milk, dubbed as “made in factory” milk, remains the second choice.

Of the nearly five lakh liter daily demand of milk in Amritsar, the packaged milk had a share of nearly one lakh liter.

There are several measures for checking milk adulteration with the packaged milk industry, whereas the loose milk is always at risk of being laced with various adulterants, he underlined.

However, the very idea of fortification is alien to the loose milk seller. “What is fortification? Milk itself is a complete food having all the required minerals and vitamins. There is no such need,” said Parkash Singh, a dairy owner. He claimed that the packaged milk industry would not be able to come close to them in terms of competition.

“Everyone knows that we supply fresh milk and not factory made. We have earned the faith of our customers,” said Parveen Kumar, a loose milk seller, adding that not only the loose milk, but the packaged milk is also adulterated.

Verka Milk Plant general manager Harminder Singh Sandhu said Verka would soon begin an awareness drive to make their reach to every household by holding camps in residential localities, telling people about the benefits of packaged milk over loose milk and also provide them free milk testing service.

Amritsar: Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader , who is SGPC member from Gurdaspur, has asked Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh to get the incident of 267 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib going missing from an SGPC-run gurdwara probed by a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court.

Sekhwan told TOI on Friday that he along with other SGPC members, including Kiranjot Kaur (Amritsar West), Harpreet Singh Garcha (Pakhowal, Ludhiana), Amrik Singh (Shahpur, Dera Baba Nanak) and Mohinder Singh Hussainpur (Balachaur, Nawanshahr), had submitted a memorandum to the jathedar, seeking his intervention to dislodge the SGPC constituted sub-committee to investigate the issue and get the inquiry done by a person with indepth knowledge of Sikh affairs. “We have urged him to get the inquiry done by a gursikh retired judge of the high court,” he said.

On June 26, the Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) had sought an inquiry from the SGPC into the incident. PHRO had claimed that 80 of the 267 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib, damaged in fire and rain, were later cremated clandestinely.

Lok Insaaf Party MLA Balwinder Singh Bains also lodged a complaint with the Amritsar police commissioner, seeking police investigation into the incident. Sekhwan said, “How can we expect an impartial inquiry by the members by the sub-committee in whose tenure, between 2016 and 2020, the incident had happened?”
