Nanakshahi Calendar: Dal Khalsa releases ‘original’ version

Rejecting the Nanakshahi Calendar amended by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), saying it is more in sync with the Bikrami calendar, radical Sikh body Dal Khalsa released copies of its original version on Sunday.

Party members gathered at the Akal Takht on the eve of New Year as per Nanakshahi Calendar (March 14) and released its first copy after performing an ardas. The members dropped a copy, along with a fresh petition addressed to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh at his official residence, said Dal Khalsa head Harchranjit Singh Dhami. He said the modifications done by the SGPC in the calendar had led to confusion and division within the community.

Milkha lambasts turban search of Jeev's coach in Italy

NEW DELHI: Outraged that his golfer son Jeev Milkha Singh's coach was asked to remove his turban during a security check at the Milan airport, legendary runner Milkha Singh on Wednesday said the incident was an insult to the Sikh community and smacked of racism.

"It is an insult to Sikh community and we should take it seriously. It is a matter of great concern. The entire Sikh community is outraged over the racial profiling. It should not have happened," Milkha fumed.

"This is the second incident when my son had gone to play there (Italy). Even though Amritinder Singh (coach) repeatedly told them that it is against Sikhism they did not listen to him. Everyone across the world knows what Sikhism is.

"I will talk to the Prime Minister in this regard. I would also take up the matter with Sonia Gandhi as she belongs to that country. It is a high time that we should take the matter seriously or otherwise there will be more such incidents in the future," he added.

Amritinder, who was accompanying Jeev for three tournaments on the European Tour, was told that he should either remove the turban or not board the flight with several people at the airport watching the scene.

Jeev protested by telling the airport security officials that it was nothing but harassment but to no avail.

Keertan Samagam at F Block, Krishna Nagar Gurudwara !

Police ensure radical Sikh leaders are kept away from Dalleke

The Moga police left no stone unturned to ensure that leaders of Sant Samaj and other radical leaders could not make it to Dalleke village where tension between the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and radical Sikhs continue. The village witnessed clashes between the two groups last Sunday that left four people injured.

The radical Sikh leaders had called a meeting at the village gurdwara on Thursday. The police stopped these leaders from heading towards the village by rounding them up on the way. Only a few member of the Akal Purakh Ki Fauj’s Jodhpurwale Singh managed to reach the gurdwara. Some leaders, however, gathered at the nearby Gurdwara Bibi Kaahan Kaur and urged all parties to maintain peace till a communication from the Akal Takht was received.

Kuldeep Singh of Damdami Taksal said Baljit Singh Daduwal was stopped by the police at Kot Shamir near Bathinda while Sant Gumreet Singh and his jatha, coming from Tiloka Haryana, were stopped at Baghapurana and were taken to Samlsar police station. Resham Singh Khukrana another radical Sikh leaders was taken to the Sadar police station.
