West Bengal Governor Jagroop Dhankhar today asked the Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee to immediately release arrested ex Para Military soldier Balwinder Singh who was brutally assaulted, his turban was tossed and he was pulled by his hair by Kolkata police. The Governor also asked the CM to also immediately apologize to Sikh community for act of state police.
He himself disclosed this to a high level delegation led by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa which met him to take up this issue.
The Governor also disclosed that he has taken up this issue with the CM today morning at 10.55 AM and talked to her for almost 20 minutes. He said that his feelings were further hurt when he read a tweet by the state Home Ministry which justified action against Balwinder Singh claiming that everything is being done as per law.
Governor also told delegation that he has asked the Chief Minister to take action against guilty police officials who meted inhuman treatment to Balwinder Singh.
He said that it is most painful and disgusting to see that members of a community whose members also lead in safeguarding borders of the country are being treated like this. He assured the delegation that he will forward memorandum submitted by the delegation to the state government and will ask for prompt action.
Earlier Mr. Sirsa told the Governor that police has illegally arrested Balwinder Singh as he already has an All India license of his weapon. He said that most shocking is behavior of police today as it was first assuring on bail of Balwinder Singh but later sought 10 day further police remand in the court which the latter granted for 8 days.
Mr. Sirsa also told him that when Balwinder Singh was taken to court today he was held by 20 police personnel as if he is a terrorist. He said that it is universal truth that he was working with Para Military forces and was deputed in Jammu and Kashmir and in the NSG as commando.
Earlier speaking to media after meeting Balwinder Singh, Mr. Sirsa disclosed the he is in high spirits and the DSGMC and the Sikh community will do everything necessary including filing case in court to get justice for him. He said that it is battle for justice and we will emerge victorious in this battle against oppression by the Kolkata police.Earlier on reaching here, Mr. Sirsa and other members of the delegation were warmly welcomed by the community members at the airport. In this high level delegation Delhi Gurdwara committee member Sarvjeet Singh Virk and Paramjeet Singh Chandhok were also also present along with Mr. Sirsa .
