The Indian PM
Narendra Modi has been appointed as a Chairman of this committee while Lok
Sabha’s speaker Mr. Om Birla, former Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Home
Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport Minister
Nitin Gadkari have been nominated as its members.
The mandate of
the 70-member committee includes approval of policies, plans, programmes and
supervision and guiding the commemoration, besides deciding broad dates for
detailed programmes of celebration.
It is pertinent
to note here that the 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur will be celebrated on April 18 next year. The
Punjab government has already announced year-long celebrations of Guru Sahib’s
400th Parkash Purab.
The Hindu
community exists today due to the sacrifices made by Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji,
and his three Sikhs Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji and Bhai Dyala Ji.
Guru had challenged the then Mughal ruler
Aurangzeb’s act of forcing Hindus to embrace Islam by standing as an iconic
figure against forceful conversions and oppression of disciples of other
religions.
