Three persons,
including an eight-year-old girl, died and four others were critically injured
after a three-storey building collapsed in the wee hours of Friday due to heavy
rains that lashed the city.
The incident
took place around 2.30am in Street No. 2 of Guru Nanakpura area on Sultanwind
Road. Rescue personnel arrived at the spot and pulled out the three bodies from
the rubble of the collapsed building.
Those dying in the incident have been identified as Raman Kumar, 31, Guddu, 8, and Lal Singh, 85, while Kumar’s wife Davinder Kaur and their two daughters have been admitted to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
Police Inspector
Prabjot Singh said according to the preliminary information, a total of nine
persons lived in the ill-fated building, which could not sustain the incessant
heavy downpour and collapsed when all its occupants were sleeping.
