Mr.Sudeep Singh's Article :

Mr.Sudeep Singh

Navjot Kaur Writes To PM For Loan Waiver To Farmers

Former chief parliamentary secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of estranged former Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for loan waiver to farmers with less than five acre land holding.

                                 Navjot Kaur Sidhu

In a letter written to Modi, a copy of which was released to media on Wednesday, she said that rising cost, dip in income and increased incidences of indebtedness among small and marginal farmers manifested in spate of suicides over the year. “I believe it is the responsibility of the Union government to waive farm loans,” she wrote.

Sources here feel the letter was Kaur’s attempt to break ice with the BJP top leadership and mend ties. She further wrote that small farmers who had less than five acres of land should also be given free power or subsidised power to give them more access to the irrigation facilities.

Marriage Declared Valid: Pakistan Court Lets Sikh Girl Go with Muslim Husband

After spending nearly a year at Dar-ul-Aman, Lahore, Pakistan Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur alias Ayesha Bibi was allowed to go with her Muslim husband Muhammad Hassan, leaving her family disappointed.

Her brother said they did not get justice. Jagjit Kaur, the daughter of a Nankana Sahib preacher, who was allegedly forced to embrace Islam and marry a Muslim man in August last year, told Lahore High Court that she did not want to go to back to her parental house.

After hearing arguments of both sides and in light of evidence regarding the girl’s age -- her puberty test and records of National Database and Registration Authority which certified her to be of 20 years old — Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhary ordered the girl to be sent with her husband after recording her statement to this effect.

"This is not justice, we were not even allowed to meet Jagjit," said her brother Manmohan Singh. He said they had pleaded for 5 minutes' time to talk to Jagjit, but the court didn’t allow it.

Jagjit Kaur, daughter of Bhagwan Singh, a granthi at Gurdwara Tambu Sahib, Nankana Sahib, had embraced Islam in an Islamic seminary on August 28, 2019, and allegedly married her Muslim boyfriend Mohammad Hassan on the following day.

Her parents had filed a police complaint alleging that Hassan had abducted Jagjit and forcibly married her after forcibly converting her.

The conversion and marriage had caused uproar in the holy city of Nankana Sahib, forcing the Pakistan Punjab governor Mohammad Sarwar to intervene ahead of the opening of Kartarpur corridor. The husband’s family had claimed that she had embraced Islam of her own accord.

In January 2020, Mohammad Imran Ali Chishti, elder brother of Hassan, had led a group of Muslims to storm Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and threatened to wipe out Sikhs from Nankana Sahib. He was subsequently put behind bars.

Sultan said that Ayesha Bibi would be sent with Hassan after Dar-ul-Aman receives the court’s orders. "Maybe Wednesday evening or Thursday she will go to her husband’s house," he added

However, Manmohan said it could two days for Dar-ul-Aman to get the court’s order. He said the family would raise the issue at the international level to seek justice.

In his petitioner, Hassaan contended that his wife wanted to live with him so she should be allowed to go with him. Kaur of Nankana Sahib previously made a statement before the court that she married to the petitioner with her free will, after converting to Islam, and did not want to go back to her family. Kaur was given Muslim name Ayesha, before she married to the petitioner.

On Wednesday evening, family members of Jagjit Kaur along with a handful of Sikhs of Nankana Sahib held a meeting at Gurudwara Nankana Sahib to conside their next step following the HC directive in the case. Manmohan said they would meet Pakistan Punjab’s governor Mohammed Sarwar to seek his support, and if they did not get any support they would observe August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day, as Black Day.

'Sikhs Should Not Keep Holy Granth Sahib At Home': Satikar Committee Chief Balbir Singh Muchhal

Satikar Committee Chief Balbir Singh Muchhal:Guru Granth Sahib Bir was taken away from Jaswant Singh’s house in village Bassi Jalal of Hoshiarpur giving a reason that the owner of the house was a meat eater.

A day after a team of Amritsar-based Siri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar Committee removed Bir of Guru Granth Sahib from the house of a former Khalsa College principal,Jaswant Singh (78), the Head of this Committee said that he is against Sikhs keeping the holy book at their homes.

Balbir Singh Muchhal, who heads Siri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar Committee, said: “If any Sikh wants to do path of Guru Granth Sahib then he or she can do it at a nearby gurdwara. There is no need of installing Guru Sahib at homes. It is almost impossible to follow all the decorum to install Guru Granth Sahib at home. So it is better that Sikhs stop this practice.”

Balbir Singh Muchhal, who is also the founder member this Satikar Committee which was among the first to be set up in Punjab, added: “I have been working with Satikar Committee for the last 25 years. We keep a check if anyone is causing disrespect to Guru Granth Sahib in anyway. Whenever we conduct some action, we inform the local police and administration in advance.

We were first to launch this Committee. Now there are countless committees across the state. We have found people keeping Guru Granth Sahib at places where Guru Sahib shouldn’t be. There is need for strict action to stop this disrespect caused to Guru Granth Sahib.”

Over the years, many Satikar Committees have mushroomed not only in the state but also in foreign countries. Such Committees often take police along with them during self-styled raids, make videos.

Villages often have “marian” (place to remember ancestors) where Guru Granth Sahib remains installed. However, Satikar Committees do not approve this.

Muchhal defends such actions: “We have blessings and order from Guru Granth Sahib. Guru himself is taking seva from us. We have been implementing the code of conduct approved by Akal Takht.”

Lord Rami Ranger CBE: "People Without Vision Can Damage The Vision of Sikh Gurus For A United Humanity"

                          Lord Rami Ranger CBE
I am appalled to read about the actions of a few unelected, self-appointed Sikhs who have removed Shri Granth Sahib’s Sarup (Holy Book) from the house of the former Principal of Khalsa College in Amritsar by claiming that he cooks and eats eggs at home.

It appears these people have claimed ownership upon the Sikh faith to decide how people must respect the holy book. Are they going to ban all those who eat meat and eggs and also drink alcohol from entering the Gurdwaras? If they do, then most of the Gurdwara will be deserted, and without the donations, it will be impossible for the Gurdwaras to remain open for much longer.

According to the Sikh faith, there is no restriction against entering Gurdwaras after eating meat or eggs as the body is the flesh itself. These fanatics misrepresent the teachings of our Gurus and interpret them according to their limited vision and common sense.

Most of the Sikhs in the Indian Armed Forces eat eggs, meat and enjoy drinks and still carry Sikh holy scripture with them and even to the battlefields

An approach to religion should be user friendly to attract maximum followers. The Sindhi believe in Guru Nanak and have Guru Granth Sahib in their homes. Are they to be forbidden to keep the holy book too?

Sikh Gurus were precise that our relationship with our maker is direct and we do not need intermediaries to connect us with the Almighty. These misguided Sikhs are going to Talibanise our faith with the dire consequence to the reputation for our modern and progressive religion.

Gurus further said, who are we to judge others as the Supreme Lord judges us. If we do not see God in all, then we do not see God at all. According to Guru Granth Sahib, the fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual meditation.

Finally, Edmund Burke said, “for evil to flourish, all it takes is for good people to do nothing”. Those Sikhs who do not condemn such ridiculous and incorrect interpretations of our faith, propagated by a few lackluster Sikhs, will damage the shining light of our faith and it will make it difficult for our next generations to follow and practice.

Sikh Gurus proclaimed, Manus Ki Jaat Sabe Eke Pehchanbo. (Oneness of the human race).

Guru Granth Sahib Bir Removed From Khalsa College Ex-Principal’s Home

Members of Amritsar-based Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee took away Bir (recension) from the residence of a retired college principal at Bassi Jalal village in Hoshiarpur district on Sunday 9th August as meat and eggs are cooked there.

The act has left Jaswant Singh Sandhu, a 78-year-old amritdhari (baptised) Sikh, dejected. “ Mein unhaan nun bentian ketian ke na lai ke jao, mein aapne guru bagair nahi reh sakda. Per uh nhin manne (I pleaded with them to not take it away as I cannot live without my Guru. But they did not heed). I recite Gurbani from the Bir daily and complete three to four readings in a year. Since last evening, I’ve been feeling so empty inside,” he said.

Jaswant Singh Sandhu taught at the Khalsa College, Garhdiwala, and was principal at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, for 10 years before retiring in 2002. Both the colleges are run by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

“I’ve had Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib in my house since 1976. When the Satkar Committee members asked me if I consumed meat and eggs, I said I eat them only occasionally, mostly when my son comes from abroad. I also said that there was no bar on a Sikh from having meat or egg. But they rebuked me, saying they would take away the bir and did not relent even as I pleaded with folded hands,” he added.

“I partook amrit around the same time when I did Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib at my home. I’ve been trying to understand the Guru’s message all my life and implementing it. I have also written a few articles on my understanding of gurbani philosophy of Guru Granth Sahib. And, at the fag end of my life, I have to face this shock,” he said in a choked voice

Satkar Committee head Balbir Singh Muchhal justified his act, saying nobody consuming meat or eggs can have bir at house. When told that there was no such bar in the Akal Takht prescribed rehat maryada (code of conduct), he said that was just a draft and he did not consider it Panth-approved maryada. When asked about Nihangs slaughtering goats and cook meat at their gurdwaras or places where they have Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib, he replied that it was for the Akal Takht to look into the matter.

Former SGPC general secretary Kiranjot Kaur condemned the act, saying, “Rehat maryada bars consumption of halal meat only. Such people are pushing people away from Guru Granth Sahib.

Randeep Hooda Apologised At A Gurudwara After Cutting His Hair :broke his pledge for 'Extraction' Hollywood Movie

                                       Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda said that he had taken a pledge not to shave his beard or cut his hair until the completion of the film. However, Extraction came along and the makers wanted him to sport a starkly different look than that of Chris Hemsworth.

"I was really heartbroken. I had taken a pledge in front of the Guru Granth Sahib in Golden Temple that I will not cut my hair till this movie reaches its conclusion. When I got offered this role in Extraction, I did this audition still hoping that Saragarhi goes on, but it was a very hard decision for me to take off my hair ," Randeep revealed.

He added, "So I went to the Gurdwara , and I apologised ,I have to keep working. I mean my job is such that it is a performing art. And if I don’t perform something inside me will die.  I came home shaved my beard, with a very heavy heart, I just had to move on by putting an end to it."

However, the actor learnt to let it go and the high-intense action scenes in Extraction definitely helped. “I was very heartbroken throughout the filming of Extraction as well because a part of me was so attached to Saragarhi. But then I thought that I’ve to move on. And have put your best foot forward, that was kind of a lesson for me to let go of the baggage with grace," he said.

Nishant Singh Malkani Loves His On-Screen Sikh Avatar in "Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega"

Actor Nishant Singh Malkani plays a Sikh character on the small screen currently, and he is enjoying every bit of it.

Nishant essays a Sikh in the comedy drama, "Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega". About his role, he says: "It's the first time I am playing a Sikh character on-screen and I am totally loving this new look and the impact it brings to my character."

"In fact, my look is very similar to that of Ranbir Kapoor's 'Rocket Singh' avatar, right from the tucked in shirts and the colourful turbans as well as his demeanour and body language I depict via my character," he added.

However, getting into the skin of the role is not that easy, he insists.

"Akshat (his character) is an extremely polite and well-dressed gentleman. I have always loved how stylish and elegant this character of mine looked but experimenting with varied looks is what an actor really thrives for," said Nishant.

"Getting into this look also comes with its own set of challenges. It takes almost an hour to get into the look right from setting the hair to fixing the beard on my face. It takes the same amount of time to even get out of the look because I have to often use an adequate amount of acetone to rub off the sticky gum from my face. While the process is slightly tedious, I believe it is totally worth it," he added.

“Demystifying U.S. History and Activating Sikh Action for Black Justice Movements”: Saldef To Hold Webinar Series On Social Justice In America

SALDEF, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, announced a series of webinars titled “Demystifying U.S. History and Activating Sikh Action for Black Justice Movements”.

Part I of the series starting on August 15 will include a presentation on Colonial Uprisings and The Creation of “Race,” From the Colonial Period to the Eve of Civil War. Guest speaker for this webinar will be Dr. Nneka D. Dennie, who will take an in-depth look at the early history of the U.S. and the relationship this country has formed with “race.”

 SALDEF stated –

SIKHS AMERICANS, LIKE MOST IN THE UNITED STATES, ARE UNAWARE OF THE TRUE HISTORY OF RACE. IN MANY CASES, WE AS A SOCIETY NEED TO RELEARN THE HISTORY THAT HAS BEEN TAUGHT AND TAKE A HARD LOOK AT THE TRUE REALITY WITHIN THIS COUNTRY.

THE SIX-PART SERIES DEMYSTIFYING U.S. HISTORY AND ACTIVATING SIKH ACTION FOR BLACK JUSTICE MOVEMENTS WILL BE A SUBSTANTIVE ANALYSIS OF OUR CURRENT SITUATION BEGINNING WITH AN APPRECIATION OF WHAT AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE DONE IN THE PAST TO FIGHT WHITE SUPREMACY AND THEIR VICTORIES AND DEFEATS THAT HAVE RESONATED FOR ALL COMMUNITIES OF COLOR.

THE SIX-PART RACIAL JUSTICE SERIES WILL PROVIDE VIEWERS WITH THE BASIS TO UNDERSTAND THE CURRENT HISTORICAL MOMENT THROUGH A SUBSTANTIVE INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORY OF RACE AND PROTEST AGAINST WHITE SUPREMACIST VIOLENCE AND LEGISLATION.

THE SERIES WILL ALSO HIGHLIGHT THE SOCIETAL ARTICULATION OF WHITE SUPREMACY, RACE, CLASS, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY. WE HOPE TO HELP CORRECT THE MISTAKEN HISTORY IN MOST AMERICANS’ MINDS, AND ALSO THE HISTORICAL ERASURE OF THE WOMEN AND LGBTQ FOLKS WHO WERE SO CENTRAL TO EVERY PART OF THE STRUGGLES WE WILL STUDY.

WITHOUT A HISTORICAL APPRECIATION OF WHAT AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE ENDURED AND SURVIVED, WE AS SIKH AMERICANS CANNOT BE GOOD ALLIES. WE CANNOT BE LEGITIMATE PARTICIPANTS IN THE DISCUSSION REGARDING RACE NOW BEING UNDERTAKEN IN THIS COUNTRY. IF WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST, WE CANNOT LEARN FROM THE LESSONS OF HISTORY, NOR BENEFIT FROM THE MISTAKES OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR JUSTICE IN THE PAST.
