Singapore football coach apologises for turban remark on Sikh reporter

Fandi Ahmad had made a racist remark on a Sikh reporter’s turban during a pre-match press conference in Singapore last week, a media report said.
Singapore’s national football coach has apologized for his racist comments made to a Sikh reporter during a pre-match press conference here last week, a media report said on Friday.
The Football Association of Singapore,Fandi Ahmad,Sikh reporter
“The Football Association of Singapore regrets Fandi Ahmad’s comments during the pre-match press conference on September 6 for the match between Singapore and Mauritius that upset members of the Sikh community,” Channel News Asia reported, citing a statement from the football body.
Both Fandi and the Football Association of Singapore have contacted the reporter, Daljit Singh, and the Sikh Advisory Board to “explain, apologize and clarify” the matter, the statement said.
“Singh gracefully accepted our explanation and apology. Our discussion with the Sikh Advisory Board has also revealed that the comments could be hurtful to the Sikh community even though they were not made with any malicious intent,” it said.
A Change.org petition was started on Thursday calling on the national coach to apologize.
Fandi is also a former star footballer having played at the national level as well as in local and international tournaments.
According to the petition, which has around 290 supporters, Fandi made the remarks after Singh posed a question about players’ skill and technique during the press conference at Oasia Hotel here.
“You said that in terms of skill and technique, some of our rivals in the region have overtaken us. How would that affect you want to play the good football which you are known for?” Singh was said to have asked, according to the petition.
Fandi reportedly replied: “We have not all bad ... I can’t condemn anybody because our system is different from others. I can’t say it also, as it is against the government. You know if I say it loud, you know, you will be seeing your turban would be gone...”
The petition also added that Fandi’s comments were followed by laughter.

RAHUL'S SPEAK ON '84 EXPOSED WITH SAJJAN KUMAR LEADING PROTESTS IN DELHI : DSGMC

WHY CONGRESS PARTY'S  LEADERSHIP SILENT ON SAJJAN KUMAR'S ACTIVE PARTICIPATION NOW: SIRSA
New Delhi, September 10: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and its Chief Mr. Rahul Gandhi for letting Sajjan Kumar, an accuses in 1984 Sikh genocide cases, to lead the protests during Bharat Band in Delhi.
In a hard-hitting statement issued here today, the DSGMC General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that now people of the Country have understood why Mr. Rahul Gandhi justified the participation of the Congress leaders in the Sikh genocide during 1984. He said that towing line of his father Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, who had declared that earth shivers when big tree falls, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has now adopted to officially declare that the party will not only patronize those were involved in this genocide including Sajjan Kamar and Jagdish Tytler but will also reward them by authorizing them to lead party programs in the country thus scaring investigating and law enforcing agencies to desist from acting against them.
Mr. Sirsa said that people have now also understood that policy to promote these guilty of the Sikh massacre is to scare witnesses of this genocide to desist from deposing against these leaders whom the party is now officially promoting as their 'big leaders'. He said that Sikh community will oppose this policy of the Congress tooth and nail and will continue to fight cases of the Sikh massacre till these guilty are not put behind bars and are awarded exemplary punishments for leading mobs which carried out worst ever massacre aimed at a particular community which has no parallel in the world.
Questioning the silence of the so-called 'Panthic' leaders of the Punjab Congress including Minister of the Punjab Government and party MLAs who have declared themselves as "champion of Sikh cause, Mr. Sirsa asked that now when Sajjan Kumar with his role to lead the Congress in the National Capital of Delhi is openly challenging the Sikhs to do whatever they can against him, why they have chosen to keep mum ? He said that why now so-called Panthic leaders sitting at Bargari are also silent on the issue particularly when the Chief Minister himself had admitted the state Assembly that he was the witness of the circumstance where Sajjan Kumar was pronounced guilty by the victim families.
The DSGMC General Secretary also said that reality of these Panthic leaders of the Congress and their puppets sitting at Bargari has been exposed on this issue but come what may the DSGMC is fully committed to taking a fight against these perpetrators of the Sikh Genocide to the conclusion and will ensure that they are awarded exemplary punishment. KIDS FOR KERALA DONATE $5,000 TO MEDICAL CAMP FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

Kerala, India — Children around the world are donating their piggy banks to the Kids for Kerala fundraising campaign launched by UNITED SIKHS, a global United Nations-affiliated non-profit dedicated to disaster relief and humanitarian advocacy. To date, Kids for Kerala have raised $5,000 in funds among children in Africa, Australia, Canada, France, India, the United States and the United Kingdom for the organization's mobile medical camp serving the remote tribal regions ravaged by the record monsoon.

Working to combat the spread of leptospirosis and dengue outbreaks, United Sikhs contributed all funds raised by Kids for Kerala to administer critical healthcare, medicine, and food supply to more than 1,000 tribal villagers, with a specific focus on babies, bed-ridden elders and pregnant women most at-risk. A large portion of the funds was used to rent a boat, which served as a medical camp on water, reaching villagers left stranded on higher ground where severe flooding remains. UNITED SIKHS rent boat to set up medical camp on the water

According to Health Dept. officials, 110 people are presently being treated for leptospirosis in Kerala, and one man, who died in Malappuram last week, is suspected to have been suffering from the disease. Nearly 400 people in total have died from the flood and about 800,000 residents have been displaced from their homes. Government officials report $2.7 billion in estimated damages with 20,000 destroyed houses, 40,000 submerged hectares of farmland — including those growing tea, rubber, and other commodities — and 83,000km of damaged roads, including 16,000km of major arteries.

Led by Dr. Abhishek Aggarwal, Vice President of the Resident Doctors Association at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, United SIKHS volunteers crossed through floodwaters, mudslides and harsh landscape conditions to provide medicine, health check-ups, blankets and food supply to tribal villages. Since arriving on ground zero, the organization has received recognition and support from the local public administration, physicians and medical staff of the DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences and Vivekananda Medical Mission for providing exclusive medical care to families affected in the Wayanad District, which has around 20% tribal population.

Adding to UNITED SIKHS' relief efforts, the Health Ministry today sent a team of more than 100 medical professionals, including specialist doctors, to Kerala's most populous regions. The organization continues to work with local officials and volunteer nutritionists to provide food distribution at its base camp, located at the Sree Sankara Vidyaniketan School. Dozens of villagers arrive daily to receive needed household items, such as blankets, buckets and cooking utensils, as well as food supply, including water, rice, lentils, flour, masala, oil and sugar.

"Common illnesses post-flood, such as leptospirosis, dysentery, dengue, and malaria can be life-threatening to young children and elders if left untreated," said Dr. Abhishek Aggarwal, UNITED SIKHS Crisis Team Volunteer. "UNITED SIKHS is reaching those who otherwise would not have access to this much-needed care. This humanitarian crisis is far-reaching and will require long-term strategies to combat the deadly spread of disease, which remains our top priority."

During recovery activity, the organization is urging all residents to follow the guidance issued by the Directorate of Health Services:
  1. People should not return home before it is safe (structure, electrical, cooking gas, etc).
  2. Be aware of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning cases where generators are continuously used. This can be avoided by ensuring proper ventilation, and not placing the generators in closed space.
  3. Remember threats to food and water safety from contamination of supplies and surfaces by flood waters. Maintain hygienic and sanitary precautions until the clean-up is complete.
  4. Ensure electrical safety before switching on electricity main switches/household appliances.
  5. Watch out for hidden reptiles - snakes, etc. inside homes/shelves, storage spaces, etc.
  6. Please comply with the technical guidance of Health Department officials.
