Journalist Tejinder Singh Sodhi : Excerpt From A No-Holds-Barred Letter By A Daring Journalist of His Horrid Experience Working For Republic TV

Journalist Tejinder Singh Sodhi:While TRP is increasing, journalists are resigning from Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV for his abusive nature.

                        Journalist Tejinder Singh Sodhi

"I was advised to keep quiet and move ahead in career as others have been doing till date. So many people left, but none spoke anything as they were worried about finding another job. Somebody had to speak up against what was going on, why wait for that someone to be someone else. Why cant that someone be me".

"I decided to put my career at stake to speak, to speak in the hope that even if I can save a single soul from falling into this trap I would succeed in my mission".

"The messages I have been getting from the people who still work there and have never interacted with me earlier reinforce my faith that whatever I did, was right".

"We teach our children to stand against injustice, but we always find fault in people who actually end up doing that".

"While taking up one of the most powerful person in the industry I have put my career and my life at stake, but I feel happy and satisfied that I could muster the courage to do what I wanted to do long ago".

"People who had joined him after leaving their well established and well-paying job at the time when Republic had no present and no future, started leaving him, some left because of the humiliation they were being meted out and some left because they realized that it was not the kind of Journalism that they were doing with him".

"Arnab in the name of hiring young talent is exploiting them, giving them peanuts in the name of job, he is hiring young college graduates or people with zero editorial understanding at the desk, so that there is nobody to speak or challenge his editorial policies, which are dictated by the WhatsApp messages from a particular political party".

"Arnab has no empathy for his staff, as he forced them to come out in the field even if their areas were declared as containment zones, I know how difficult and dangerous it was, but we did follow his dictate".

"Though I know that Arnab is a vindictive man and would try his level best to sabotage my career and my future prospects to find a job, but someone had to speak against him, I decided why not that someone should be me. At least by speaking against this man’s exploitation of more youth would stop, those who dream to join Journalism in the hope of doing quality stuff end up with being bonded labourers".

"I also want to put this on record that if anything bad happens to me or my family, any accident, anything untoward happens to me or my family, Arnab and his wife is to be held responsible for the same. I will be giving this undertaking to my local police station soon".

“Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office" :House passes bill to name Houston post office after Late Sikh deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal

The Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office on Addicks Howell Road is named after the officer killed in a 2019 traffic stop accident.

The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill to name a Houston post office after slain Harris County sheriff’s deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal, the first Sikh deputy to work for the agency, according to U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher.

Sikh community applauds this bipartisan act and looks forward to the Senate passing the resolution as well.

“My son was beloved by all in his community, and performed his job and participated in seva (selfless service) with respect, dignity, and care,” said Pyara Singh Dhaliwal, Deputy Dhaliwal’s father.

“He lived as a symbol of the strength that comes from diversity and unity, and this building will serve as another permanent reminder of how much he meant to our family and the people of Houston. We are so thankful for this effort to honor his legacy and his commitment to our city.”

As a reminder, Deputy Dhaliwal was killed during a traffic stop in northwest Houston, Texas on September 27, 2019. He originally joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in 2009; in 2015, he secured a historic, first-of-its-kind accommodation to wear his Sikh articles of faith while serving. Deputy Dhaliwal was widely regarded as a barrier-breaking role model for Sikhs and other religious minorities.

“The Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office will serve as a permanent reminder of his service, his sacrifice, and his example for us all. I am grateful that my legislation to honor his memory has passed the House of Representatives“said congresswoman  Lizzie Fletcher.

Following this successful passage in the House, this resolution is expected to now move to the U.S. Senate for a vote and ultimately to the desk of President Trump by the end of the year.

Kuldip Kaur :The First Woman Chowkidar Of Punjab

Kuldip Kaur is the first woman among 13,500 Chowkidars of Punjab appointed by the government. She ventures out every night breaking gender norms with a torch in one hand and a lathi in other.

Dressed in salwar-kamiz and armed with a khunda (wooden stick), the 55-year-old is the only female chowkidar in her village, Bangiwal and the first woman to be appointed this job in the state of Punjab. She has been working every night since 2008 and making sure her village is safe on her own, without a man and she’s the one doing all the protecting, and I think we can all celebrate that.

She is an inspiration to all the women who are burdened with predetermined gender roles and are denied access to job opportunities in the male-dominated fields simply because they are women.

She starts off her duty every night at 9.30 pm taking rounds around the alley of her village and screams out ‘jagde raho’.

She gets home past midnight around 12.30 or 1 pm. She said her kids were scared for her when she took the job but she never had a second thought. However, seeing their mother bravely wandering the streets and keeping the village safe, they have now become assured. “They now call me a superwoman!” she added.

But it hasn’t been exactly cakewalk for her. She is still reminded of the unconventional role she’s taken up and is mocked for it by the villagers. She said, “At times people even make fun of me when I say Jagde raho as I pass by their homes.” Why? Because the society can’t handle a woman protecting the whole village when she is not even considered strong enough to protect herself. She added that it doesn’t affect her anymore as she has become used to it.

This job is her only source of income other than the widow pension she gets. More than the financial security, it’s the identity the job has given her that she enjoys.

Even as she is suffering from a cataract and has no money for surgery, she is all dedicated towards her job and says can’t compromise with the duty as it is with this chowkidari income that the expenses of her family are taken care of. Meanwhile, amid the pandemic, she has had two jobs. Along with guarding, she also sensitised people to the safety guidelines. “During Covid, keeping vigilance in and around the village became quite stringent and I was asked to ensure that no one steps out during odd hours. So, instead of shouting my pet phrase ‘jagde raho’, I would call out ‘ghar vich hi raho’, she says.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa Fles Complaint With Narcotics Control Bureau Against Film Stars Seen Drugged in a Video

Former Delhi MLA Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today filed a complaint against film stars with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) based on a video in which film stars were seen in a drugged state.

He urged the NCB Chief Rakesh Asthana to thoroughly investigate this matter which can open Pandora's box in the already ongoing investigation about death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Talking to media after submitting his complaint, Manjinder Singh Sirsa disclosed that he had filed complaint about this video with Mumbai police 10 months ago on August 1, 2019 but it failed to even initiate an investigation. He said that he had sent his complaint then on speed post and even had sent several reminders about it besides posting it on his official tweeter handle. He said that if the Mumbai Police had investigated this matter timely, then we might not have lost Sushant Singh Rajput.

He said that actor Shahid Kapoor is himself a drug addict and he has painted his story in film Udta Punjab defaming Punjabi community particularly Punjabi Youth. He said that he told NCB Chief that if the agency wills thoroughly investigate this matter, it will unearth how many big stars are involved in drug issue and who is supplying drugs to them.

He said that it is shocking to see that an elected Legislator had submitted a written complaint to Mumbai Police but it even failed to talk about it, which signals how efforts were made to scuttle this matter. He said that he had even sent several reminders to Mumbai police but it failed to act though it sent emails to me on other complaints submitted by me. He said that it was failure of Mumbai Police which has led to sorry state of affairs.

He said that we have submitted details to NCB Chief who has assured action as per law. He said that though action can be delayed but it will be done for sure.

Investigation into this video will lead to starling disclosures about film stars and their drug suppliers.

Parveen Kaur : Youngest Sarpanch of a village in Haryana

Parveen Kaur, a 25-year-old woman in Haryana has become an inspiration for many who want to do some good for the society. She is an engineer, a Sarpanch, and is a godsend in the lives of the people living in a remote village in Haryana

Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted in praise of the youngest woman Sarpanch of the state saying that the daughters of Haryana have incredible strength, determination and passion to achieve their goals through their voice and actions.

“My tenure as a sarpanch will come to end in January 2021, but I believe that my biggest achievement during these five years is that I was able to inspire the girls of my village to come out and do something worthwhile. Today, many girls are thinking about becoming sarpanch,”said Parveen Kaur.

As Sarpanch, Parveen Kaur set up CCTV cameras for women’s security, water coolers, solar lights and a library in the Panchayat Ghar for children up to Class 8. Her work has been honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Women’s Day in 2017, and the Haryana government has has also felicitated her on several occasions.

Ahead of the January 2016 Panchayat elections, the Haryana government had set basic educational qualifications for candidates. Women from the general category were required to have passed Class 8, while for Scheduled Caste Women, the bar was set at Class 5. In the case of men, these qualification criteria were fixed at Class 10 (general) and 8 (SC) respectively. The state government’s decision was opposed at several levels. However, for Parveen Kaur this decision turned out to be favorable.

“My dream was to become an engineer, so I had taken admission in Kurukshetra University. In the last five years, I have studied five days a week and dedicated the remaining two days for the village,” she said. The village has around 1,200 voters.

“The post of Sarpanch in my village for this term was reserved for a female. There was no other educated female candidate in the entire village, so the villagers unanimously elected me without any contest. My family and I had shifted to the city for study, but still there was a close connection with the village and I worked with full dedication,”

She gives credit to her father as well as the villagers, saying, “Of course my father and others helped a lot. I did not want to drop out from university, and it was thanks to active support from everyone that I was able to do some good work.”

In 2016, 2565 women were elected as sarpanches across Haryana. However, despite a reservation of 50 per cent seats for women in panchayats, many of the elected women are confined to the role of dummy candidate. They are unable to even attend the block-level meetings. Important decisions related to the village are often taken by their father-in-law, husband or brother-in-law.

Parveen Kaur believes the reservation for women in the panchayat system has helped, although it will take time for women to really come into their own. At present, Parveen is pursuing a web designing course from Chandigarh and wants to take up a job.
