Following a call by Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal authority, and other hardliner Sikh groups, the Punjab government on Saturday banned the screening of ‘MSG: The Messenger of God’ starring chief of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

A state government spokesperson said the film has been banned following “reports of tension surrounding its release in some other parts of the country”.

"The decision has been taken in the larger and crucial interest of preserving peace and social harmony in the state and safeguarding the age-old emotional bonds among people professing different faiths in the state.

Sikh wins compensation over prison turban challenge

Amrik Bilkhu, a criminal defence solicitor, was told to remove pins from his turban

A Sikh solicitor has won undisclosed compensation after being barred from entering a prison to visit a client because he had pins in his turban.
Amrik Bilkhu, a criminal defence solicitor, was told to remove the pins even though he pointed out it would make the religious garment fall apart.
He brought a religious discrimination claim against the Ministry of Justice, which has now settled out of court and agreed to pay Mr Bilkhu’s legal costs.
Mr Bilkhu arrived at Belmarsh prison in south-east London to visit a client who was on remand in October 2013.
He had previously been allowed into the jail without any problems but on this occasion was refused entry because of the four pins holding together his turban.

Baba Baghel Singh Multimedia Museum in Gurdwara Bangla Sahib.
Delhi's first religious multimedia museum - 'Baba Baghel Singh Sikh Heritage Multimedia Museum' – is becoming a popular attraction not only for the Sikh community but also for people from other religions.
The museum, located inside Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, has been named after Baba Baghel Singh, a brave Sikh soldier, who played a significant role in defending Sikhism. He conquered the Red Fort in Delhi in 1783 and established seven historic gurdwaras in Delhi.
The force behind the ideas was International President of World Punjabi Organisation (WPO), Vikramjit Singh Sahney. Sahney conceptualised and started the museum in the memory of his father, late Gurucharan Singh Sahney.
