The Burton
Sikh Community is backing the NHS after donating £1,456 to the Queen’s Hospital Covid appeal.
Members of the community got together and donated money from their own pockets as a way of showing their appreciation to the NHS for their continued hard work and dedication during the coronavirus outbreak.
The money will go towards purchasing key essentials such as PPE equipment for
the Covid-19 ward at the Belvedere Road hospital.
More than 20 families in and around Burton supported the cause
and Majhail Singh, who came up with the idea said he was "very proud"
of his community and the response it had shown towards the good cause.

Mr Singh, 66, who owns the Crescent Hotel, in Horninglow Road said: "The donation is our way, as a Sikh community to say thank you to those who are working day and night to save the lives of others.

"I asked the community to contribute and it was all
personal donations. No-one took part in any fundraising and the message from me
was to donate whatever you can.
"Our faith teaches us to do sewa (selfless service) and to
support those who need help, and given the current situation the hospital is
one of the most important places.
