ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ, 28 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ : ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਬਰਸੀ ਮੌਕੇ ਅੱਜ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ 'ਮਨਮੀਤ ਪੈਰਾਡਾਈਜ਼' ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਾਰਕ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇਬ੍ਰਿਸਬੇਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਰਡ ਮੇਅਰ ਗ੍ਰਾਹਮ, ਬ੍ਰਿਸਬੇਨ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਐਂਜਿਲਾ ਓਨ, ਬ੍ਰਿਸਬੇਨ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ, ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੰਤਰੀ, ਦਿੱਲੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਜਨਰਲ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ੍ਰ ਮਨਜਿੰਦਰਸਿੰਘ ਸਿਰਸਾ, ਪੀ ਆਰ ਟੀ ਸੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਵਿਨਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੋਲਡੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਤਵੰਤੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ, ਭਰਾ ਅਮਿਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਤੇ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਮਨ ਵੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।   ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪਾਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵੀ ਰੱਖੀਗਈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਿਤ ਵਰਣਨ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਟੈਂਪਲ ਇਨਾਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਸਬੇਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਰਸੀ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਆਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਪਾਏ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਪਤਵੰਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਭੇਂਟ ਕੀਤੇ।

ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸ੍ਰ ਮਨਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਉਪ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ੍ਰ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਭੇਂਟ ਕੀਤੇ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਕਟ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਦਿੱਤਾ।  ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਆਸਟਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਬਲਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ ਕੰਮਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਲਵਲਾ ਸੀ।

ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨਮੀਤ ਅਲੀਸ਼ੇਰ ਬੱਸ ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਉਪਰ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਜਵਲਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਕੇਸ ਦੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ 11 ਜਨਵਰੀ 2018 ਨੂੰ  ਹੋਣੀ ਹੈ।   PR

ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸ੍ਰ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਦੀ ਆਦਤ ਤੋਂ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅਕਸਰ ਚੋਣਾ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੋਣਵਾਅਦੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬਾਰਾਪੂਲਾ ਫਲਾਈਓਵਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘਬਹਾਦਰ ਦੀ 300ਵੀਂ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਰ ਵਰੇਗੰਢ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾਵਾਅਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਏ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੀਰੋ ਦਾ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਦਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਦੀ ਬਦੌਲਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਖ਼ਸੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। 

ਸ੍ਰ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਐਲਾਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੁਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਤਰ ਵੀ ਲਿਖੇ ਤੇ ਪੀਡਬਲਿਊ ਡੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ  ਹਦਾਇਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਪੁੱਲ 'ਤੇ ਬੋਰਡ ਲਗਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਪਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਬਾਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ'ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇਣਾ, ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਬੋਰਡ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਮਗਰੋਂ ਇਹ ਪੁੱਲ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਪੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ  ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ  ਉਹ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵੀਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੇਜ਼ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ 'ਝੂਠੇ ਵਾਅਦਿਆਂ' ਵਾਲੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋੜ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇਣਗੇ।

Yes, we are the proud residents of Delhi, a mega Smart city, the national capital. It has the beautiful Presidential house, the Indian Parliament, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Lotus Temple, Birla Mandir, and so many Gurudwaras, Churches and a lot more. The beauty of Mughal gardens as well the Lodhi garden is well known to one & all. It has the world famous markets of Connaught place, Khan market, Chandni Chowk, Sarojini Nagar & much more. It gets a huge rush of tourists from all over the world, every day.

The concentration of political power in this city has made it the Power capital of the country as all the political decisions are taken only in this city, in the Indian parliament. It also gets a huge rush of protestors from all over the country, as Jantar Mantar had become a hot spot for them, till a few days ago. Anna Hazare & the newborn leader of the City, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, got all the limelight at this famous Jantar Mantar only.

But a famous saying applies to this mega city, i.e.  ”Only the wearer knows, where the shoe pinches”. In spite of being the residents of this smart city, the national capital, the residents of the city have to face so many problems also. It has become one of the most polluted cities in the world. Most of the time, residents here have to keep an eye on the concentration of pollutants, i.e. PM10 as well PM2.5. The Supreme Court has banned the sale of crackers, to save it from becoming a living hell.

The population of the city has exceeded a mark of 2 crores.  The registered number of vehicles in the city has crossed a mark of 1 crore.  It is the most difficult thing to move into your car at the peak hours.  The average speed of vehicles in the city during the peak hours is unimaginable. Moving from one border to another border may take hours and it’s much more difficult to go regularly to NCR areas and come back, as a routine. Odd-Even and many other techniques are being tried in the city to save it from the congestion. Even the prestigious Delhi Metro becomes more congested during peak hours.

       ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ੍ਰ ਮਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਨਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ  ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸ੍ਰ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਨਾ ਤੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਸ੍ਰ ਹਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਨਾ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸ਼ੁਸ਼ਮਾ ਸਵਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ  ਦੇ ਦਫਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਬੈਠਕ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਪੰਥਕ ਮੁੱਦਿਆ ਤੋ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ 2019 ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ 550 ਸਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਉਤਸਵ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਪੰਥ ਵੱਲੋ ਜੰਗੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ, ਓਕਾਬ ਬੋਰਡ ਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੇ ਬਕਾਇਦਾ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੱਕ 2005 ਦੀ ਤਰਜ਼ ਤੇ ਨਗਰ ਕੀਤਰਨ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।ਸਰਨਾ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸੁਖਾਵੇਂ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਖੁਦ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਨਗਰ ਕੀਤਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ । 

     ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ•ਾ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਲਾਂਘੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨਹੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਹੱਲ ਕੱਢਣ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਕਿਉਕਿ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦੋ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਇਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਵੱਲੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਦੇ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਨਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਕੋਚ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਵਾਉਦੀ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜੱਥਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਧਾਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਤੋ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ਼ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਰੇਲ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਮਸਲੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਲ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਾਸੀ ਦੀਆ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੇਸ ਨਹੀ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਮੁੱਦੇ 'ਤੇ ਹਾਂ ਪੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਗਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

New Management of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Management & Information Technology

New Delhi, October 4: The new management committee of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Management & Information Technology today assumed charged of office in presence of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary S. Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

        It is worth mentioning here that S. Mohinderpaul singh Chadha has become Chairman of this prestigious institution whereas S. Jasbir Singh Jassi has assumed charge as Manager. Sr. Akali Leaders S. Kulmohan Singh, S. Ravinder Singh Khurana, Captain Inderpreet Singh and Prof. (Dr.) DS Jaggi Director General, Dr. Navneet Kaur Director were also present.

        Congratulating the new team, S. Sirsa said that this institution is a prestigious institution not only of Delhi but throughout the country which has produced genius students. He said that it is an honor for us that new team is assuming charge today and hope it will take it to new heights and will ensure that more and more talented and brilliant students are produced by this institution.  He also lauded the decision to start evening shift in the institution and hoped that his will give an extra opportunity to the students to get themselves enrolled in the institution.

Canada's Jagmeet Singh becomes first non-white politician to lead major party

Jagmeet Singh, a 38-year-old lawyer and practising Sikh, was elected on Sunday to lead Canada’s left-leaning New Democrats, becoming the first non-white politician to head a major political party there.

The Ontario provincial lawmaker, whose penchant for colorful turbans and tailor-made three-piece suits made him a social media star, was elected on the first ballot to lead the New Democratic party (NDP) into the 2019 federal election against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals.

“Thank you, New Democrats. The run for prime minister begins now,” Singh tweeted.

Singh secured 54% of the vote, defeating three rivals to become the new head of the NDP, succeeding Thomas Mulcair. The results of the vote, conducted online and by mail, were announced at a party meeting in Toronto.

Trudeau congratulated his new political rival on Twitter on Sunday, saying: “I look forward to speaking soon and working together for Canadians.”

The Toronto-area politician, who has led in fundraising since joining the race in May, had been touted by supporters as someone who could bring new life to the party, which has struggled since the death of charismatic former leader Jack Layton in 2011.

Singh’s profile was boosted early last month after a video went viral showing him calmly responding with words of love to a heckler who interrupted a campaign event to accuse him of wanting to impose Shariah law in Canada.

Christopher Cochrane, a professor of political science at the University of Toronto, said: “His skill, in being able to defuse the situation, it understandably appealed to a lot of people who ended up supporting him.”

Cochrane added that Singh’s ability to connect both with young people and those in ethnic minorities would make him a “force to reckon with” when competing against Trudeau in 2019.

The NDP is the third largest party in the federal parliament, with 44 of 338 seats. The party lags well behind the centrist Liberals and right-leaning Conservatives in political fundraising this year, according to Elections Canada data.

Singh will now focus on rallying supporters and targeting center-left voters who helped propel Trudeau’s Liberals to a decisive victory in 2015.

THOUSANDS PARTICIPATE IN RUN4JUSTICE FOR GURPREET

DSGMC AND SIKH SEWA SOCIETY HAD JOINTLY ORGANISED MEET

          

New Delhi, October 2:  Thousands of Delhites today participated in "Run4Justice" a marathon for seeking justice for Gurpreet Singh who lost his life in cold-blooded murder for opposing smoking at public places recently. This meet was organized jointly by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee in association with Sikh Sewa Society.

S. Onkar Singh father of Gurpreet Singh specially attended the marathon which started from Gurdwara Damdama Sahib and culminated at Gurdwara bala Sahib after being flagged off by Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh ji. Bollywood singer Shibani Kashayap also participated in this marathon.

          

Addressing the participants on the occasion DSGMC General Secretary S.Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that murder of Gurpreet Singh has come as a shock not only to the sikh community but all the justice loving people. He said that every citizen of the country wants our environment of pollution-free and raising alarm against smoking by Gurpreet Singh was one of his duty towards the nation but it was most terrible that when this youngster was advising the most inhuman mind, he murdered him for raising the objection. He said that massive participation in this marathon has once again the reiteration of the stand of people that we want justice for Gurpreet Singh.

          

S. Sirsa said that we should all come together to eradicate all the evils spoiling our young generation and he also sought their cooperation for to get a ban on Hookah bars in Delhi which have become a menace and are harming our youngsters at very dangerous level. He said that his campaign against all these activities against the addictive products is dedicated to Gurpreet Singh.

          

In today's marathon  Ashish Chauhan stood first in boys category whereas Aftab and Amit Kumar stood second and third respectively whereas  Parmjit Kaur bagged first position and Manpriya Kaur and Gupreet Kaur came second and third respectively in the girl's category. Winners were honored with prizes.
